Volunteer to Mentor and Tutor Refugee Youth

Overview

SEA Literacy (SEAL) provides year‑round ESL lessons, homework tutoring, and recreational activities to refugee youth in grades kindergarten through college. We meet on Tuesday evenings 6-8 pm and Saturdays mornings 10 am–12 pm, and we also go on field trips and have special events throughout the year. Children participate by choice; they want to learn English, do better in the classroom, and meet other kids.

This is an advantage of volunteering here; you can see immediate improvement. SEAL focuses on helping refugee students who have been in the US anywhere from a month to a few years to become more fluent in English and more connected with peers and society.

As a volunteer you will help students read, learn and speak English, play games, work on STEM or art projects, and/or assist them in doing their homework. If you have a skill you can teach (kids love chess but need teachers; some taught knitting, etc.), we would love to work with you!
