Position: Instructor, Chemistry (Part-Time)

Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM, responsibilities include teaching classroom and laboratory courses in Chemistry; curriculum development; maintenance of science laboratories; participation in grant-related activities; and other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • A minimum of Master's degree in Chemistry.
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in a related field, including but not limited to Biology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Physics, Geology, Pharmacology, Microbiology with at least eighteen (18) graduate credits in Chemistry.

Occupational Experience

Required:

None

Preferred Experience: Two (2) years of post‑secondary teaching experience.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to work one‑on‑one with students in the classroom and traditional laboratory environments.
  • Experience in innovative delivery strategies in instruction in Chemistry, including alternative delivery courses (i.e., Internet) and course management (i.e., Blackboard), is preferred.
  • Experience in proposal development and grant writing is preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
  • Must meet State of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) instruction requirements.
  • Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
  • Teaching – Must embrace and demonstrate the Standards of Teaching Excellence in development and delivery of instruction.
Essential Technologies
  • Email – Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)
  • Telephone – Experience with a voice mail system
  • Computer – Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google
Essential Supportive Technology
  • Online Information Management Systems – Experience with Self‑Service or other online systems used for student advising, grading, etc.
  • Blackboard Ultra – Experience with Blackboard or other web‑based course‑management systems.
  • Technology‑based Instruction – Experience with technology‑based instructional delivery systems including SMART board, interactive touch screens, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (e.g., social networking applications).
Supplemental Information

Start Date: Available to start in Fall 2026 semester.

Hours: This is a part‑time faculty pool position. Assignments are temporary and not guaranteed; hours/days may vary by semester and department needs.

Salary: Starting hourly wage for all part‑time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching; additional 45 minutes of time per hour is compensated as an equivalent of $70 per hour for office hours and prep time.
