The College of Community Engagement and Professions (CCEP) is seeking a Student Affairs Retention Specialist. The Specialist will improve retention, persistence, and completion rates among students through strategic guidance, early alert systems, connection with university and community resources, community building activities, and coordinated academic support. The position is 100% on‑campus and requires availability during two shift options: 12 pm–8 pm or 1 pm–9 pm.
Key Job Responsibilities- Improve completion rates through tailored initiatives, coordinating academic support and identifying barriers to success
- Connect students with UWM resources and help students navigate steps to access those resources
- Proactively reach out to students to encourage registration, persistence, academic planning, and action regarding academic concerns
- Advocate for student needs and promote a streamlined learning experience
- Leverage early alert, academic performance, and retention monitoring systems to promote student success through active outreach
- Build relationships with students to understand their unique needs and challenges
- Liaise with external partners while maintaining FERPA compliance
- Coordinate student onboarding experience and develop cohort‑based professional support communities
- Develop a case management system for ongoing support and guidance of students
Minimum salary of $55,000 annually. Final salary offer will be based on knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated during the selection process.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Higher Education, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a college/university setting in an advising, coaching, or related support role
- Experience using student information systems or case management tools
- Strong communication skills (as evidenced by application materials)
- Experience building relationships with diverse populations
- 3+ years’ experience in a college/university advising or coaching capacity
- Experience with teacher, social work, and/or information science and technology education programs
