Position: Gym Teacher (Part-Time)

Position Summary

The Gym Teacher (GT) provides specialized services to St. Joseph Academy, assisting in the daily programming for children enrolled in K4-8. The GT maintains school classroom standards, developing and implementing specialized programming. School programming is implemented according to standards set forth by Department of Public Instruction (DPI), Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) and federal guidelines. The GT will also schedule, organize, facilitate and coach (when necessary) after school athletics.

The GT will grow the program into the community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education or related field preferred; DPI licensure preferred
  • 1+ years working in a licensed childcare setting or elementary school
  • 1+ years developing and implementing specialized programming
  • Bilingual speaker (Spanish) preferred
  • Ability to observe and maintain classroom
  • Exemplary interpersonal, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient user of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and phone systems
  • Ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and implement solutions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with people in and outside of the Education/Childcare Services department
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and effectively interact with children, their family members, management, and staff members
  • Ability to respond positively to work direction and guidance from others
  • Ability to work independently, managing multiple demanding tasks under critical time frames
  • Current CPR, First Aid and Certification

Office equipment: personal computers, printers, phone systems, fax machine, photocopier

Physical and Mental Requirements

Must have ability to sit (25%), walk/stand (75%) routinely throughout the shift. Must be able to periodically lift up to 50 lbs. Must have functional senses/manual dexterity to carry out the job; communicate effectively; and use of office equipment. Must have the ability to deal effectively with the stress of managing emergency/critical situations and multiple tasks.

Environmental Conditions

Performs duties with exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to care children, and occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of the children and seasonal exposure to high humidity, heat and cold due to the internal and external environment.

Essential Job Functions/Duties
  • Assures each family's and employee's right to privacy and confidentiality, at all times
  • Extends excellent service to all children and families
  • Establishes appropriate relationships with children, parents/guardians, staff, and the public which ensures a safe environment that protects children/families' rights
  • Communicates verbally and in writing all pertinent information to support the education department's programs
  • Communicates pertinent information with members of the team and appropriate departments to ensure response to requests, concerns, or issues
  • Develop and implement age appropriate physical education programming
  • Develop and implement age appropriate leadership and social skill building education programming
  • Instruct students on basic social sports knowledge and skills
  • Promote physical activity which develops motor skills, increases coordination and physical development
  • Instruct students on effective teamwork, including a healthy mindset of competition, winning and losing, etc.
  • Instill proper exercise and eating habits
  • Adapt programming to fit needs of changing children
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress
  • Support of all school functions, including, but not limited to, small group work, lunch room duty, recess duty, and/or dismissal duty.
  • Ensures welcoming environment to all children
  • Participates in meetings to improve communication and problem solving, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Schedule

Monday 12:00 PM-4:00 PM, Wednesday 12:00PM-4:00PM, Friday 8:00AM-1:00PM.
