Position: Instructor, Fire Protection (Full-Time)

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver engaging instruction according to established curriculum guidelines.
  • Manage classroom/laboratory environments to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Develop, monitor, and revise curriculum to maintain course effectiveness and relevance.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for instructional activities.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Advise students on academic matters and support their educational journey.
  • Collaborate with advisory committees, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings to contribute to academic planning and decision‑making.
  • Promote educational programs and participate in student recruitment efforts.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business and industry partners to facilitate student opportunities.
  • Complete program evaluations, engage in continuous professional development, and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of an associate degree in a fire‑related program or 60 college credits.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full‑time or equivalent (10,000 hours) related experience.
  • One of the following must be met:
    • At least one year of related work experience within the last five years.
    • Two years of teaching Fire Science and/or EMS related coursework at the post‑secondary level within the last five years.
Licensure
  • Current Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I (NFPA 1041).
  • Current Wisconsin Fire Certification in at least three of the following disciplines:
    • Firefighter I or II
    • Fire Officer I or II
    • Driver Operator – Pumper or Aerial
    • Fire Inspector

  • Online Information Management Systems – experience with INFOnline or other systems used for student advising, programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Blackboard – experience with Blackboard or other web‑based course management systems.
  • Technology‑based Instruction – experience with digital delivery systems including SMART Boards, interactive touch‑screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players, and other classroom technology.
  • Emerging Technologies – experience with emerging technologies (e.g., social networking applications).
Interview

Selected candidates are required to prepare a teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes, which may be conducted in‑person or virtually.

Salary

Salary is listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal equity, and a review of the applicant’s employment and educational background.
