Job DutiesWorking under the direction of the Lead Educator, the Assistant Educator assists with planning, preparing, and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom activities that promote children's cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical development. The position facilitates learning experiences and supports daily classroom routines, including meals, transitions, rest periods, outdoor play, and other age‑appropriate activities.
The Assistant Educator helps maintain a safe, healthy, and organized classroom environment by actively supervising children and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, licensing, and accreditation standards. The position contributes to documenting children's development through observations, anecdotal notes, and progress records, assists with updating individualized learning plans, and supports children with varying developmental and learning needs.
In collaboration with the Lead Educator, the Assistant Educator helps organize classroom operations, maintain instructional materials and records, and support the coordination of daily classroom activities. The position also assists with onboarding, mentoring, and providing day‑to‑day guidance to student employees while contributing feedback for required student staff evaluations.
The Assistant Educator establishes and maintains positive relationships with families by communicating children's daily activities, developmental milestones, and classroom experiences. The position communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring documentation is completed in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
The Children’s Learning Center in Student Affairs is required to conduct Post‑Offer Pre‑Employment (POPE) physical screening on all selected candidates for Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher positions. The test involves squatting, bending, reaching lifting, carrying, etc. of varying weights to simulate the physical demands you may experience while on the job. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening.
Key Job Responsibilities- Updates and organizes individualized and developmental educational plans for children
- Assists with basic technical and administrative classroom support
- Maintains the safety and physical well‑being of children in a designated classroom
- Documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
- Assists with the planning and facilitation of classroom programming and classroom coordination and organization for a early childhood education facility according to established curriculums
Children's Learning Center
Compensation$16-16.50 per hour
Required Qualifications- NAEYC education requirements for Assistant Teacher role (12 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, and/or early childhood special education)
- Minimum of 6 months documented experience teaching children between 6 weeks and 5 years, in an early learning program
- Certification in hands‑on Pediatric First Aid, AED and CPR is required upon start date and must be maintained during incumbency.
- Classroom experience in a NAEYC accredited program
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education
- Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills
- Evidence of the ability to work well in a complex, team environment with both professional and student staff
- Working knowledge of child development and implementation and its application in classroom management
- Evidence of the ability to understand and communicate children’s development and needs to families.
