This position will join the Library's team of librarians and staff serving Marquette University Law School's students, faculty, and staff, as well as the Marquette campus and Milwaukee legal community.
Duties and Responsibilities- Staff the Law library reference desk according to the weekly reference schedule, primarily during evening and rotating weekend hours.
- Provide reference and specialized research assistance to law students, law faculty, the university community, the legal community, and members of the public in person, over the phone, and via electronic communication.
- Refer patrons to legal research resources appropriate to their needs and provide instruction on the use of such resources.
- Provide information about alternative resources as necessary.
- Offer occasional instructional sessions and research support, including to members of the law school’s self‑edited journals.
- Create, revise, and update research guides, bibliographies, and other library publications and web content.
- Participate in or assist with projects that support reference, research, and instructional needs, such as collection development and maintenance or research instruction sessions.
- Collaborate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of library goals, policies, procedures, and services.
Skills and Abilities
- J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- M.L.I.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA‑accredited institution, or current enrollment in such a program with degree completion required within one year of hire.
- Knowledge of legal research methodology and legal bibliography in multiple formats.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including self‑confidence in speaking and writing.
- Flexibility and the ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
- A strong service orientation and the capacity to work with a diverse patron population.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience in library or law library reference.
- Experience teaching legal research, technology, or information literacy.
