At Pathways High, all teachers collaborate to develop trimester-long interdisciplinary project-based learning seminars that address content area standards. All teachers serve as content-lead for their area of specialty and serve as full-time advisors, which involves guiding a diverse group of mixed-grade students through their learning career. The Life Science Specialist collaborates consistently across disciplines and content areas with other staff and special education staff.

Knowledge of teaching science at a high school level and understanding adolescent development is crucial to the success of a candidate in this position. While experience with Project-based learning is preferred, it is not necessary for success in this position.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and implement trimester-long, Project-Based Learning courses in the area of life science for high school. Additional science areas could be taught to offer more opportunities for students in upper grade levels.
  • Serve as a full-time advisor, guiding mixed-grade students through their academic and personal development.
  • Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community.
  • Modify instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students.
  • Develop students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
  • Assess and provide feedback on student progress to support their growth and learning.
  • Participate in staff professional development, meetings, and other staff events.
  • Work with high school students using an equity-based lens and trauma-informed practices.
  • Supervise at lunch, before, and after school as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities typical of a teacher as assigned.

Qualifications
  • - Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's Degree (in Education or other related degree)
  • - 6-12 Content Area Wisconsin Teaching Licensure or ability to obtain or
  • Wisconsin Charter School Teaching Licensure or ability to obtain
