Position Overview
The Impact Coach will leverage instructional strategy, classroom teaching experience, and people-management skills to strengthen the development and performance of City Year Milwaukee’s Ameri Corps members (ACMs) and Teaching Fellows. This role is pivotal in advancing student success, promoting educational equity, increasing educator diversity, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality academic and social-emotional supports in schools. The Impact Coach will focus on three primary areas: directly managing and developing Teaching Fellows;
coaching ACMs and school-based leaders to deliver effective Tier I and Tier II interventions; and leading instructional learning, observation, and continuous-improvement systems across the site. The Impact Coach will work within the Impact Department and collaborate closely with the Service & Learning Director, Senior Impact Director, Impact Managers, Team Leaders, and school partners. Through training, observation, feedback, data analysis, and individualized coaching, the Impact Coach will build the skills, knowledge, and mindsets needed to improve instructional practice and student outcomes.
- Direct Management and Development:
- Directly manage Teaching Fellows through regular one-on-one meetings, goal setting, performance feedback, and professional-development planning.
- Establish clear expectations for instructional practice, professional conduct, attendance, communication, and progress toward program and certification requirements.
- Use observation data, student outcomes, partner feedback, and performance trends to coach Teaching Fellows and address performance concerns promptly.
- Create individualized development plans that strengthen classroom management, lesson execution, culturally responsive teaching, and relationship-building with students.
- Program Coordination and School Partnership:
- Coordinate Teaching Fellow placement, schedules, onboarding, training, and ongoing support in partnership with school leaders and internal staff.
- Maintain consistent communication with principals, cooperating teachers, university or certification partners, and City Year leaders regarding Fellow progress and program needs.
- Monitor completion of program requirements and elevate risks, barriers, or support needs to the appropriate internal and external partners.
- Develop systems and routines that promote a consistent, equitable, and high-quality Teaching Fellow experience.
- Training Management and Execution:
- Partner with the Service & Learning Director to manage the day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of monthly Team Leader learning and development sessions.
- Develop and maintain the annual Team Leader learning calendar, session plans, facilitator assignments, materials, logistics, and follow-up actions.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate monthly Team Leader training that builds leadership, people-management, instructional-support, and team-development skills.
- Ensure Team Leader learning experiences align with site priorities, the Ameri Corps member learning arc, and the expectations of the Team Leader role.
- Coordinate with Impact Managers and other facilitators to identify emerging Team Leader development needs and translate those needs into relevant training content.
- Manage attendance, participation, feedback, and completion data for Team Leader learning and development sessions.
- Collect and analyze participant feedback and performance trends to continuously improve the content, structure, and effectiveness of monthly training.
- Provide Team Leaders with practical tools, resources, and follow-up support to apply learning within their school teams.
- Support the Service & Learning Director in assessing Team Leader growth, identifying gaps, and recommending targeted coaching or additional development opportunities.
- Training, Planning, and Execution:
- Develop and deliver training on effective lesson planning, differentiation, culturally responsive instruction, and student engagement.
- Facilitate collaborative planning sessions and promote effective co-planning between ACMs, Teaching Fellows, and partner teachers.
- Guide participants in using assessment results, course performance, attendance, and behavior data to tailor lesson objectives and interventions.
- Curriculum and Resource Implementation:
- Build mastery of City Year-endorsed curricula and support consistent, high-quality implementation.
- Create and maintain lesson templates, exemplars, intervention resources, and instructional materials.
- Support effective use of available instructional resources, including Common Lit, HMH, ST Math, MDIS, and other district- or school-approved tools.
