Immigration Coordinator (International Education Coordinator) to provide services to all international students including immigration advising and immigration document issuance.
Theindividualinthispositionispartoftheteamthatcoordinatestheuniversity’scompliancewithfederal regulations by gathering and maintaining
Department of Homeland Security-mandated information on international students and scholars and managingtimelyandaccuratedata reporting. This individual reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services.
Immigration Regulationand Compliance Management
- Actasa Designated School Official (DSO) onrecordwiththe
Department of Homeland Security (DHS**)** - DetermineeligibilityandauthorizeissuanceofF-1/F-2(I-20s) andJ-1/J-2(DS-2019s) immigration documents through DHS’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database
- CoordinateissuanceofappropriaterecommendationsforemploymentauthorizationwithSEVIS
Immigration Advising
- Responsibleforprovidingimmigrationadvisingandcounselingtointernationalstudentsregardinggovernment regulations set forth by the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State,
- Department of Laborandother Federalagenciestomaintaintheirlegalstudentstatus
- Individual student, faculty and staff consultations on a variety of issues including but not limited to, on and off campus employment, internship, travel, extension of government documents, authorization for less than full-time enrollment, application to Homeland Security for reinstatement to legal student status, change in education level and major, application to USCIS for change of visa status, bringing familymemberstotheU.S.,universitytransferprocedureswithintheU.S.,andstudentvisabenefitsandresponsibilities
- CoordinateprearrivaladvisingforUWMstudentadmitsonapplyingforstudentvisasandcounselstudents, familymembersand academic departments when visas are denied.
- Coordinaterequiredreporting,fornewstudentsarrival
Coordinate,create,implementandassistindevelopmentandassessmentofcampusinitiativesinvolving international students
- Supporteffortsthatencouragetheinternationalizationofthe University
- Serveasliaisonwiththe Centerfor International Education ’scommunityoutreachinitiativesto coordinate delivery of programming information to international students
Job Responsibilities:
Advises on student visa issues through individual consultations and workshops across various mediums
Interprets and communicates student rights, responsibilities, and options related to specific requests and situations
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for international students, promoting their contributions to diverse communities
Schedules logistics and secures and manages resources for various programs to support international students
Develops programming and resource materials, within budget guidelines and across various mediums, to provide co-curricular and engagement opportunities to international students
Department: The Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee advancesUWM’s global mission by supporting international students and scholars, facilitating study abroad opportunities, and building international partnerships. CIE serves as a central hub for international admissions, immigration and visa advising, global learning experiences,
and cross-cultural engagement, helping students, faculty, and staff develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
Compensation: $45,000-$55,000/annually.
