The Mentor/Advisor Specialist (MAS) serves as mentor/advisor for students in the Project-Beyond-2 (PB2) program. Additionally, the MAS in this position supports structured project and peer mentoring activities for project participants and community partners in the PB-2 Program. The PB2 program functions to recruit, retain, and graduate nursing students from disadvantaged and underrepresented minority (URM) backgrounds to improve health workforce diversity. The role will include monitoring, tracking, and maintaining accurate records of all mentoring activities and student project participants' academic records.
The objectives of this job include fostering recruitment, retention, academic success, and graduation of disadvantaged and under represented minority (URM) nursing students to improve health workforce diversity. Additionally, the MAS will support a pre-admission intensive program and structured academic and leadership activities for incoming disadvantaged and URM nursing students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide individual advising and mentoring for project participants
2. Support professional nurse mentoring program for project participants (PP) 3. Coordinate structured activities for project participants
4. Support summer Preadmission Intensive Program for incoming freshmen
5. Conduct group & one-to-one mentoring training sessions for project participants and mentors
6. Track mentoring activities, including peer mentoring, & maintain a mentor-mentee network
7. Link students with professional minority nursing organizations and community partners
8. Coordinate and keep records of structured activities for BSN participants (BSNPP) 9. Coordinate and keep records of efforts made in addressing social determinants of education & health (SDE/SDH) 10. Support summer Preliminary Academic Intensive (PAI)…
