The Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a common embedded electronics platform to accelerate new product development. This role involves working closely with product management, new product development, mechanical engineering, and firmware engineering to ensure that stringent performance, reliability, and compliance requirements are met through a unified platform design. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in analog and digital circuit design with collaborative skills to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
Location: Milwaukee, WI - Headquarters
Shift: Onsite Monday-Thursday with ability to work virtually on Fridays
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Design and develop analog and digital circuits for embedded systems
- Select and specify components to meet design requirements for performance, cost, and reliability.
- Create detailed schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to ensure designs meet electromechanical constraints.
- Work with both line voltage and battery-powered systems safely and effectively.
- Operate and utilize lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and dynamo meters for testing and validation.
- Design for EMC compliance and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of hardware issues during development and testing.
- Support firmware engineers during hardware bring-up and integration.
- Document designs, test results, and compliance reports thoroughly.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design principles.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools, preferably Altium Designer.
- Understanding of power electronics and mixed-signal design.
- Familiarity with electromechanical integration and constraints.
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI design practices and compliance standards.
Testing & Validation:
- Skilled in using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, dynamo meters).
- Ability to perform thorough validation and troubleshooting.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally with mechanical and firmware teams.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in embedded hardware design.
- Proven experience in analog and digital circuit design for embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with PCB design and layout using Altium.
- Familiarity with line voltage and battery-powered systems.
- Experience designing for EMC compliance and regulatory standards.
- Preferred:
Experience with motor control systems, power management, power supply design, and safety-critical designs.
Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee may have to lift demonstration tooling up to 100 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. This can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee can work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Will have repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting but may also be visiting different customers where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. While visiting customers, employee may occasionally be exposed to high/low temperatures, outdoor elements (such as precipitation and wind), high levels of noise, hazardous conditions, small and/or enclosed spaces, or adverse environmental conditions.
