Power Testing and Energization (PTE) Lead P&C Technician Field Services
WSP is initiating a search for a PTE Lead P&C Technician Field Services based in Wisconsin or Minnesota. The successful applicant will work with our PTE Team to support electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.
This Opportunity- Leads field operations for complex construction, environmental, and infrastructure projects, providing expert technical guidance and hands‑on execution.
- Applies extensive field experience to support day‑to‑day site activities, troubleshoot technical challenges, uphold quality and safety standards, and ensure escalations to project leadership for major scope impacts.
- Coordinates with engineers, scientists, and subcontractors to deliver tasks efficiently and in compliance with regulatory and client requirements.
- Mentors technicians, manages site logistics, and facilitates communication between field crews and project leadership.
- Supports WSP’s vision as a leading global consulting firm for the energy transition.
- Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high‑voltage substations.
- Conduct on‑site protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150.
- Execute and validate advanced protection and control testing sequences in alignment with test plans and client specifications.
- Follow safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and job hazard assessments.
- Document site activities using field forms, digital tools, and mobile applications.
- Provide equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed.
- Act as primary field liaison with clients, contractors, vendors, and project managers.
- Lead field implementation of health and safety protocols, job hazard analyses, and quality control procedures.
- Mentor junior and mid‑level technicians in safety practices and proper documentation.
- Support corrective actions and identify practical solutions to equipment issues.
- Monitor contractor compliance with safety plans, environmental controls, and quality expectations.
- Plan field readiness, including tool inspection, site access coordination, and weather contingencies.
- Participate in pre‑construction meetings, regulatory inspections, and client walkthroughs as senior field representative.
- Maintain accurate data collection, reporting, and integration with project systems.
- Oversee fleet vehicles, tools, materials, and inventory to support site productivity.
- Contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Uphold a strong safety culture and encourage hazard recognition and reporting.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 11 years of experience in electrical testing, including medium and high‑voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
- Expertise on transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families) and protective schemes.
- Advanced technical skills in relay calibration, control scheme testing, and static/dynamic testing of microprocessor relays.
- Experience with electrical field testing standards such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA.
- Knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects (15 kV–500 kV).
- Proficiency with testing software:
ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, AND AcSELerator Quickset. - Ability to identify and respond to field challenges and equipment malfunctions.
- Advanced skills in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports.
- Physical stamina for outdoor and demanding conditions.
- Experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineers.
- Commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
