Job Summary
The Quality Engineer provides inspection, analysis, and assistance to the site quality team in support of Materion’s quality goals and objectives. The role reports to the Quality Manager or other individuals as required and is ideally suited for candidates with a background in metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, or materials science.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary quality leader for assigned area(s).
- Develop and execute a quality plan for each assigned area.
- Manage and improve the ISO
9001:2015 Quality System, maintaining in‑depth technical knowledge of the standard. - Manage customer complaints and non‑conformances, and assist with material dispositions in assigned areas.
- Prepare PPAPs, including process mapping, control plans, and FMEAs per customer and internal requirements.
- Perform periodic QMS audits of Materion sites or suppliers.
- Act as process owner or team member for recurring QMS systems such as the Process Change Control Board, customer complaint process, CAR management, or others.
- Lead structured problem‑solving activities to resolve customer complaints, audit findings, or customer returns in a timely manner to prevent recurrence.
- Participate in the review of customer specifications, quality agreements, or other documents to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Provide training and ensure the site is compliant with GMP, ISO requirements, and other applicable regulations.
- Track and report metrics related to quality, such as cost of poor quality, customer complaints, and product non‑conformances.
- Drive quality improvements by working with Operations and Process Engineering to implement effective quality planning tools, measurement systems, sampling plans, statistical techniques, or other process controls.
- Assist with scale‑up of manufacturing processes to ensure customer requirements and expectations are met.
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, or another technical field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality assurance position.
- Background knowledge of ISO
9001:2015 or other quality management system standards strongly preferred. - Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in accordance with the company’s strategic direction.
- Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Sigma GB/BB desired; if not certified, the ability to learn and apply Lean and Six Sigma skills is required.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills, with effective facilitation abilities and the capacity to work with all levels of the organization.
- Effective listening and questioning skills.
- Strong understanding of change management concepts and a history of successful application.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
- Knowledge of SAP and Minitab is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel to Materion facilities, customers, and vendors; domestic travel 3‑10% depending on changing business needs.
The selected candidate must have export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology under ITAR and EAR. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, admitted as an asylee or refugee, a national of an eligible country (via letter of assurance), or be approved for an export license by the governing agency. Access to U.S. controlled technology will be conditional on Materion’s ability to obtain an export license within a timeframe consistent with business requirements.
