Job Overview
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for defining, improving, and maintaining new and existing suppliers while working with the New Product Development (NPD) teams to provide technical direction ensuring effective coordination and execution of projects as they relate to the quality of processes, services, and products within U.S. and foreign operations. The role supports all Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environmental, and Continuous Improvement initiatives and associated metrics.
Responsibilities- Support SQDCCE metric development and collaborate cross‑functionally within a multi‑site environment.
- Lead supplier development and improvement activities: define and improve the Supplier Readiness Review (SRR) process, schedule and administer SRRs (plan/report) and other qualification activities.
- Provide technical guidance to create, review, and improve Badger Meter quality acceptance standards (QAS).
- Identify key industry standards and leverage them to drive uniformity within Badger Meter practices.
- Identify opportunities for the improvement of quality procedures, product designs, manufacturing processes, and equipment.
- Continually drive to improve product uniformity while eliminating/minimizing non‑conformances.
- Lead the development of inspection and test methodologies that demonstrate sufficient capability of meeting/exceeding quality requirements.
- Lead the utilization of data sources to improve customer quality by collaborating with cross‑functional teams to resolve top supplier issues.
- Place top underperforming suppliers on improvement plans and establish metrics to monitor supplier performance, continually seek and identify additional opportunities for improvement.
- Provide disposition of non‑conformances in a timely manner, assure that the proper corrective and preventive actions are taken, and follow up to assess effectiveness.
- Establish and foster key relationships throughout the organization enabling effective performance to execute on commitments, deliver results, and drive critical issues simultaneously.
- Bachelor's Degree in Quality Engineering, or a similar field.
- 5+ years of experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role.
- 15‑20% travel required for supplier audits.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, AS9100).
- Proficiency with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Statistical Process Techniques, Failure Analysis, and Process Validation.
- Problem‑solving skills; preferred techniques: 8‑Step, 8D, and/or A3.
- Ability to multi‑task and drive critical issues simultaneously.
- Advanced MS Office and related products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Process Development, Data Analytics, Structured Problem Solving.
- History of Quality, Design/Process FMEAs & Control Plans, Process Capability, GR&R, MSA, Product Parts Approval Process (PPAPs), and Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).
- Collaboration:
