About Us

Clearwater Industries is a Milwaukee-based manufacturer specializing in industrial water clarification equipment. Our products include flocculant preparation systems, pump skid assemblies, fines recovery systems, and both stationary and portable water clarifiers. These systems integrate weldments, tanks, piping, purchased components, motors, sensors, and controls. Additionally, we provide a wide array of clarifying chemistries to our clients, from jar testing to “last mile” logistics, ensuring the optimal solution is provided.

Working with the leading chemical manufacturers allows us to serve industries worldwide, including sand and gravel, tunneling, drilling, paper production, power generation, dredging, and municipal water treatment.

Job Summary

The Field Service Technician commissions and starts up Clearwater Industries equipment at customer sites, troubleshoots installed equipment, and performs warranty repairs. When not on the road, the technician works from our Brown Deer facility on factory acceptance testing, electrical assembly, and process testing for equipment headed to the field. Travel increases over time as field capability grows. The Field Service Technician is the company’s hands‑on technical presence with customers and the first point of contact for installed equipment performance.

We hire for capability and trajectory: the right aptitude and a willingness to travel and learn matter more than years of prior commissioning experience.

Key Responsibilities In the Field
  • Commission and start up water treatment equipment including clarifiers, polymer systems, pump skids, and DAF units at customer sites
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on installed equipment, with remote support from the Engineering team
  • Perform site process tuning and chemistry adjustments, including polymer optimization
  • Train customer operators on equipment operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting during commissioning and on follow‑up visits
  • Perform warranty repairs
  • Document trips thoroughly: service reports, commissioning checklists, drawing markups, and program changes communicated back to the office
In the Shop
  • Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) on completed equipment before it ships
  • Support in‑shop electrical assembly and wiring
  • Conduct jar testing and process work to inform polymer selection and dosing
  • Provide phone and remote troubleshooting support to existing customers
  • Handle service and parts inquiries, and relay field findings to engineering and sales
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of mechanical and rotating equipment: pumps, gear drives, valves
  • Working knowledge of electrical and pneumatic controls (PLC, HMI, VFD, relay, ladder logic) at a troubleshooting level; deep programming is not required
  • Ability to troubleshoot with a whole system view, as well as down to individual components
  • Ability to read and markup mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; willing and able to travel
  • Valid US Passport, or eligibility to obtain one, for infrequent travel to Canada and Mexico (representing approximately 5% of total travel)
  • Prior field service or commissioning experience on industrial or municipal process equipment, especially clarifiers, DAF, or polymer systems, is preferred but not required
Skills
  • Self‑starter who uses available resources (manuals, remote support) before escalating
  • Strong communicator who asks good questions, flags issues clearly, documents thoroughly
  • Sound judgment on customer sites: represents the company well, stays composed in difficult situations, knows when to elevate
  • Comfortable working independently, with a lifestyle that fits regular travel
