Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems business is a trusted provider of innovative and advanced naval gas and hybrid power systems, control technology, and life‑cycle support solutions for the U.S. Navy and allied navies worldwide. Our work helps power critical missions on platforms where performance, reliability, and precision matter. Job Summary
If you enjoy turning ideas into real, buildable hardware, and want your designs to support systems used by sailors around the world—this role gives you hands‑on ownership across parts, assemblies, and system configurations. You’ll work closely with engineers and shop‑floor partners in a collaborative environment where quality and detail are valued.
What you’ll do- Create mechanical, electrical, and electronic design drawings for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, and/or system configurations using the latest 3D CAD software
- Produce drawings that clearly define multiple views, dimensions, tolerances, materials, relationships between components, and required specs
- Build and maintain BOMs and documentation, including Engineering Change Orders
- Support quality and performance by assisting with hand on prototype builds/coordination, basic testing, and results review
- Perform and document common calculations (strength of materials, torque calculations, weights, simple forces, & stresses) using automated tools when appropriate
- Identify fit/interference risks, recommend solutions or alternate construction, and update drawings accordingly
- Partner with Mechanical and Electrical engineers to resolve issues quickly and keep design intent aligned with manufacturing and quality requirements
- Keep growing your skills through supplier/technical collaboration, workshops, and professional resources
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent) and 2–5 years of drafting/design experience in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of commonly used design/engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
- Comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with a team
