Facility Environmental Manager

Reporting to the Regional Environmental Compliance lead, the Facility Environmental Manager is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing environmental related tasks to ensure Reworld sites in Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids, IA, comply with environmental regulations and prevent incidents.

Position Responsibilities
  • Conduct and coordinate worker training in areas governed by USEPA, state EPA, and other government agencies where applicable.
  • Perform critical employee onboarding and orientation duties.
  • Investigate, report, and review findings from compliance near‑miss reports, facility inspections, environmental testing results, and other incidents.
  • Ensure training around critical subject matter (HAZWOPER, DOT Hazardous Materials, SPCC, SWPPP, RCRA, Environmental Awareness, client‑specific programs) is completed.
  • Perform external auditing (disposal partner and client services) and internal auditing (field projects, truck terminals, wastewater treatment facilities).
  • Manage relationships with regulatory authorities including inspectors, law enforcement, and the community.
  • Ensure environmental compliance by providing guidance, assisting with preparation and maintenance of environmental licenses and permits, reviewing non‑routine reporting, and conducting site audits.
  • Review and analyze environmental data to confirm standards are met.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate compliance risks and provide recommendations to Director and/or business partners.
  • Maintain membership affiliation and ongoing trainer education.
  • Co‑administer Ideagen, E Logs, fleet technologies, USEPA/OEPA site accounts and databases.
  • Execute integration duties per new business unit acquisition.
  • Ensure corporate programs and procedures are implemented at each facility.
  • Collaborate with regional compliance lead to complete incident reports and generate monthly statistics.
  • Attend and teach training courses in the field for all relevant environmental tasks.
  • Verify continuous compliance with local and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in science (biology, chemistry, environmental science) or engineering (environmental, chemical, mechanical, etc.) or a related degree; alternatively 10+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of the Clean Water Act, SPCC, EPCRA, and RCRA requirements.
  • 5 years of experience as a safety and/or environmental professional responsible for compliance with CWA, CAA, and/or RCRA standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret environmental rules, operating documentation, Code of Federal Regulations, OSHA regulations, and other consensus standards.
  • Comfort with mathematical concepts (probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry).
  • Proficiency applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Knowledge of solid waste permitting requirements and reporting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between business activities and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to use critical thinking and logic to solve regulatory compliance issues.
Physical Demands
  • Work environment requires walking, standing, and sitting; occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and weather conditions; moderate noise level.
  • Ability to walk, stand and sit; may require wearing a full‑face respirator.
  • Intermittently work in various weather conditions.

Pay Transparency

Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably. The base pay for this role at the primary location is $99,000.00 – $ USD.
