Early Career Mechanical Engineer – Milwaukee, WI

We are searching for an Early Career Mechanical Engineer to join our Milwaukee, WI office.

Data centers are buildings that store information technology and must remain operational 24/7. Your role will be to design the building infrastructure—power and cooling systems—to ensure continuous operation. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and telecommunication engineers, as well as external partners such as architects and structural engineers. You will also travel to project locations during construction to observe your designs in action.

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings for project development, design, and construction.
• Perform basic professional mechanical engineering work related to research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building infrastructure, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
• Provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications.
• Verify site characteristics and address engineering, design, and construction issues.
• Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
• Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including data collection, engineering studies, surveys, and construction.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 year of relevant post‑education experience.
• Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
• Knowledge of mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
• Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and technology tools.
• Proficiency with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAM).
• Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.

• Engineer in Training certification.
• Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
• Active participation in local professional practice organizations.
