Engineering Technician

An Engineering Technician will support electrical testing activities in a high‐current laboratory environment for a leading industrial organisation. This role is hands‐on and lab‐based, focused on building, configuring, and testing Motor Control Centres (MCCs) and switch gear to verify compliance with UL and IEC standards. The position works closely with test, development, and high‐current lab engineers to ensure safe, accurate, and well‐documented test execution.

Responsibilities
  • Build and configure MCC and switch gear test samples according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components for standardised and custom test configurations
  • Prepare and support high‐current, high‐power electrical test setups
  • Conduct compliance testing in accordance with applicable standards, including:
    • UL 845
    • UL 891
    • IEC 61439‐1
    • IEC 61439‐2
  • Perform common electrical tests such as:
    • Short‐circuit testing
    • Arc‐flash testing
    • Temperature‐rise testing
    • Dielectric (hi‐pot) testing
  • Support safe operation of equipment in high‐energy laboratory environments
  • Strictly follow electrical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and laboratory safety procedures
  • Document test setups, procedures, results, and observations with a high level of accuracy
  • Capture test data, anomalies, and deviations in formal test records
  • Support traceability, audit readiness, and compliance documentation requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe lab environment using 5S principles
  • Promote a strong safety culture within high‐current test areas
  • Collaborate with development engineers on design verification activities
  • Partner with high‐current lab engineers during complex or hazardous testing
  • Provide hands‐on technical support during failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Communicate test status, issues, and findings clearly to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
  • Hands‐on experience with electrical and mechanical assembly
  • Experience with power and control wiring
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‐on troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices and LOTO procedures
  • Understanding of safe work practices for high‐energy electrical systems
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and 5S principles
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience testing MCCs, switch gear, or industrial power products
  • Familiarity with UL and IEC compliance testing standards
