Electrical Test Engineer III
As an Electrical Engineer III, your role will be primarily focused on supporting the testing, and validation of advanced battery products and battery systems. You will be responsible for testing complex electrical systems across battery cells, modules, packs, battery management systems, power electronics utilizing a variety of instrumentation and test equipment. You will work closely with design, controls, systems, manufacturing, and reliability teams to ensure battery systems meet electrical, functional, performance, safety, and durability requirements.
You will do this by:
- Developing and executing electrical test and validation plans for battery cells, modules, packs, and battery systems.
- Translating system requirements and specifications into practical, measurable test cases and validation procedures.
- Defining test methods, instrumentation, data acquisition requirements, test fixtures, and test setups.
- Performing hands-on testing of battery and battery-system hardware in laboratory and test environments.
- Conducting functional, performance, characterization, environmental, durability, and abuse-related testing as appropriate for the product.
- Developing and executing test procedures for electrical, thermal, communications, protection, and BMS-related functions.
- Configuring and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, power supplies, electronic loads, battery cyclers, data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, CAN tools, and other test equipment.
- Analyzing test data to identify trends, anomalies, failures, and opportunities for improvement.
- Leading electrical failure investigations and root-cause analysis, working collaboratively with design and systems engineers to identify and resolve issues.
- Developing automated test scripts, data-processing tools, or other engineering tools to improve test efficiency and repeatability.
- Establishing and maintaining test methods, procedures, equipment configurations, and validation documentation.
- Supporting correlation between laboratory, prototype, production, and field test results.
- Evaluating test results against requirements and providing clear technical recommendations and conclusions.
- Participating in design and engineering reviews from a testability, validation, and system-performance perspective.
- Identifying gaps in test coverage and recommend improvements to validation strategies.
- Supporting prototype builds, test readiness reviews, and hardware bring-up activities.
- Working with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues involving electrical hardware, BMS behavior, controls, communications, sensors, and system integration.
- Ensuring testing is performed safely and in accordance with applicable laboratory, electrical, and battery safety requirements.
