Embedded Controls Engineer
This role focuses on developing advanced, physics-based models and control algorithms for complex electromechanical and power systems using MATLAB/Simulink. The Embedded Controls Engineer will build models from scratch, drive new product development, and support simulation, validation, and automatic code generation activities in a rapidly evolving technology environment. Experience with medium-voltage power systems and heavy equipment or power generation applications is highly desirable.
Need GENSET experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop physics-based, mathematical, and data-driven models using MATLAB/Simulink for complex physical systems.
- Create and validate models from scratch for systems such as engines, generators, power conversion equipment, and similar electromechanical platforms.
- Design, simulate, tune, and validate advanced control algorithms for embedded control applications.
- Configure and maintain models for automatic code generation into embedded software environments.
- Participate in model verification, simulation, testing, and controls validation activities to ensure robust performance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop next-generation controls technology and support new product development.
- Support embedded controls and software development activities by applying model-based design methodologies.
- Work effectively in a rapidly evolving environment where requirements and technology direction may change during the product development lifecycle.
- Clearly explain modeling methodologies and approaches used to represent real-world systems to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Skills
- Strong, hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, specifically in model-based design.
- Genset experience
- Demonstrated ability to build models from scratch rather than only modifying or consuming existing models.
- Solid understanding of physical system modeling, controls theory, and simulation techniques.
- Proven experience developing, validating, and tuning control algorithms for embedded control systems.
- Experience with automated code generation from Simulink or similar model-based design environments.
- Ability to clearly articulate and explain modeling methodologies and approaches used to represent real-world systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with medium-voltage power systems (11kV+), while not required, is highly desirable.
- Power generation, heavy equipment, or similar industrial environments is preferred.
- Experience modeling engines, generators, and power conversion equipment or comparable electromechanical systems.
- Strong programming mindset and ability to work with embedded software teams in a model-based development workflow.
Work Environment
The Embedded Controls Engineer will work in a dynamic engineering environment focused on developing next-generation controls technology for complex electromechanical and power systems. The role involves extensive use of MATLAB/Simulink and model-based design tools, including simulation, validation, and automatic code generation for embedded software. Work is highly collaborative, with frequent interaction with cross-functional engineering teams and exposure to evolving requirements and technology directions throughout the product development process.
The environment emphasizes innovation, rigorous technical analysis, and clear communication of modeling approaches and results.
