Position

Summary

The War Memorial Center is seeking an experienced Accountant to serve as a key contributor in a small, collaborative nonprofit environment. This on-site role is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial functions, payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and select operational responsibilities. The Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management across the organization, supporting an annual operating budget of approximately $2.3 million.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle while contributing to the broader operations of a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and process all accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP, including accounts payable/receivable, cash activity, and general ledger entries
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, schedules, depreciation logs, and fixed asset tracking
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, ACH activity, and statements of financial position
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, cost reports, and statistical reports
  • Monitor, analyze, and forecast operating results; prepare monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses
  • Prepare sales and use tax filings, census reports, and other required financial documentation
  • Prepare 1099-NEC forms, Form 1096, and audit schedules
  • Ensure timely filing of required corporate documents and maintain PCI compliance
  • Maintain and adhere to the organization’s Financial Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Communicate financial insights and organizational financial status to leadership as needed
Payroll & Employee Benefits
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including review of hours, wages, deductions, taxes, and with holdings
  • Maintain payroll records, PTO tracking, and payroll-related reporting
  • Coordinate with payroll vendors to ensure timely tax payments and filings
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits enrollment and changes, and required employee notices
Parking Operations
  • Manage automated parking operations and prepare monthly reports
  • Review vendor service reports and evaluate parking procedures
  • Promote and administer daily and monthly parking programs
Additional Operational Support
  • Coordinate telephone systems, IT vendors, and computer network support
  • Oversee acquisition, installation, and maintenance of office equipment and technology
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with five (5) or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint, One Drive, Word, Outlook, Publisher, Access, and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with Sage 50 Accounting and ADP Payroll is a plus
  • Strong data management, analysis, and financial reporting skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities independently
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working in a small-office, collaborative environment
  • Knowledge of employee benefit plans
