Responsibilities

  • Independently examine appraisals and evaluations prepared by vendors or BMO appraisers for adherence to all policies, procedures, and standards applicable to the transaction based on established assessment processes.
  • Assess the credibility and/or reliability of appraisals performed for the Bank, as well as the reasonableness of the appraisal value conclusions specifically as it relates to substandard and impaired borrowers.
  • Document and report results of reviews on an individual and summary basis; identify and recommend action plans for resolving issues.
  • Identify where corrective actions are required (e.g., incomplete investigations and analysis, possible fraudulent transactions) and escalates per guidelines; ensure corrective action is taken as necessary.
  • Where appropriate, supplement with preparation of independently prepared valuation of substandard and impaired borrowers.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of related policies and procedures.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group.
  • Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives.
  • Recommend and implement solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision‑making.
  • Identify business needs, design/develop tools and training programs, and may include delivery of training to audiences.
  • Help determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Conduct independent analysis and assessment.
  • Integrate information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.
  • Employ systems (e.g., customized exception reports, tracking reports) to manage information.
  • Break down strategic problems, analyze data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Build change‑management plans of varying scope and type; lead or participate in a variety of change‑management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise to other team members, acting as a go‑to person for the team.
  • Support the manager by coordinating and managing workflow and exception requests; escalates any concerns.
  • Provide input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Perform financial analysis of customer and account information to provide insights and value recommendations.
  • Document decisions with rationale that can be understood and explained to customers.
  • Keep abreast of economic and market developments to inform decision‑making and analysis.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge around lending issues, including loan structure, collateral, foreclosure, bankruptcy and the various regulations that directly impact the Bank.
  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders; includes legal and insolvency professionals and other consultants/advisors in the commercial business community.
  • Gather and format data into regular and ad‑hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Monitor and track performance and address any issues.
  • Execute work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise‑wide focus.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Work independently and regularly handle non‑routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying the Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk‑informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets and adhere to applicable policy documents, laws and regulations.
