Team members contribute directly to the success of businesses that may have limited access to traditional financing.
The Relationship Manager – Business Lending is a full-time, on-site role based in downtown Milwaukee, WI. This position is responsible for originating, developing, and managing lending relationships with businesses, partner business lenders and community lending sources across region, with an emphasis on underserved markets. Daily responsibilities include meeting with commercial lenders, prospective and existing business clients, assessing financing needs, gathering and analyzing financial information, and recommending appropriate loan structures and products.
The Relationship Manager will evaluate opportunities, prepare and present credit presentations, monitor loan performance, and ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable funder regulations. The role also involves building community and referral networks, coordinating with internal teams throughout the lending process, and providing ongoing support to clients to help them achieve their business goals.
- Demonstrated experience of 3+ years in business lending, commercial banking, or small business finance, including credit analysis and loan structuring.
- Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust with business owners, community partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, including experience reviewing financial statements, cash flow projections, and collateral valuations.
- Ability to develop creative and practical financing solutions.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in clear, accessible terms.
- Understanding of economic development, underserved markets, and the unique financing needs of small and medium-sized businesses.
- Ability to work on-site in downtown Milwaukee, WI, manage a portfolio of loan clients, and prioritize tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Proficiency with common office and financial software tools; familiarity with loan origination or portfolio management systems is a plus.
- Commitment to ethical lending practices, attention to detail, and alignment with MEDC’s mission to support underserved communities.
- Experience working with community organizations and municipalities a plus.
