The Role

The Commercial Finance Senior Analyst at A.O. Smith plays a vital role in supporting the financial health and strategic decision-making processes within the North American Water Treatment segment. This position involves preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial data related to specific segments of the consumer business, including retail and marketplace sales channels. The ideal candidate will interpret complex financial information to provide actionable insights and recommendations to sales and financial management, fostering a data-driven approach to business growth.

As a trusted partner to sales, marketing, and finance teams, the Senior Analyst will contribute to strategic planning, operational efficiency, and financial integrity of the organization.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Master's Degree in Accounting or CPA certification is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting and/or corporate finance
Additional Qualifications
  • Public accounting experience is preferred
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently and work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations
  • Experience with SAP, BPC, or One Stream financial systems is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in conveying financial results
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make complex decisions
  • High level of organizational skills and proactive problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen
  • Positive attitude with a desire for continuous learning and professional growth
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the forecasting and strategic planning process for retail sales and cost centers, providing financial insights to support business objectives.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports related to sales, profit margins, and administrative expenses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage the accounting close process, including reviewing accruals and journal entries, and reporting actual results to internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct variance analysis comparing actual results against budgets and prior periods to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Support consumer commercial leaders by providing financial data and analytics to inform decision-making, including ROI analysis, pricing strategies, and route-to-market evaluations.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable for consumer channels, managing aged balances and implementing action plans to mitigate bad debt risks.
  • Review contractual programs and account deductions to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Continuously evaluate departmental processes, practices, and controls to identify opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness improvements.
  • Ensure timely and reliable dissemination of financial information to all relevant users.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of accounting policies, financial systems, and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and improve financial processes.
