JOB SUMMARY

Primary responsibility is to Take Excellent Care Of Our Customers by satisfying each customer's needs, exceeding their expectations, and making every shopping visit a pleasant and satisfying experience. Responsible for providing customer service and assisting the Pharmacists in filling prescriptions, entering information into computer, ordering and receiving product, checking in orders, stocking, record keeping, answering telephone calls, selling sundry and prescription items via point-of-sale, and maintaining the overall conditions of the Pharmacy Department.

This requires accurately and efficiently operating the cash register, providing various services at the Pharmacy service counter, properly identifying patients, transporting medications to and from areas of the clinic grounds and Pharmacy, wearing personal protective equipment as directed, and maintaining security and control of all funds in the cash register.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains supplies, drug, and sundry inventory
  • Orders and procures drugs from the appropriate sources; shelves items alphabetically by generic name; projects drug usage so that the pharmacy does not run out of needed drug items; properly stores drugs that have special storage requirements (e.g., refrigeration).
  • Receives and fills clinic and pharmacy supply orders for a wide variety of items stocked. Makes routine tours of area serviced by pharmacy to ascertain replenishment needs. Incumbent is qualified to perform inspections that comply with AAAHC standards.
  • Receives drug shipments; records, receipts in files maintained for that purpose; notifies the pharmacists of any delayed shipment, partial receipts or similar events affecting stocks.
  • Will assist pharmacy staff in maintaining cleanliness of the main pharmacy, pharmacy storage areas and other clinic drug store areas.
  • Will be responsible for proper storage of drugs in areas assigned (i.e. expiration dates, rotation of drug stocks).

  • Prepackage drugs from bulk stores into prescription size, maintains control logs as required for quality control and statistical purposes. Generates required labels with attached correct auxiliary labels.
  • Packages drugs for shipment (e.g. returns of outdated drugs. manufacturers, wholesale supplier)
  • Repackage bulk drugs into unit dose containers under pharmacist supervision. Will maintain control logs for quality control and statistical purposes.
  • Assists the pharmacists in their patient care activities
  • Types prescription labels: calculates doses to match physician's order with pharmacy stocks and adjusts label accordingly; fills prescriptions.
  • Records prescription refills and dispensing of Over-the-Counter drugs onto the patient's medical record.
  • Explains pharmacy policies and prescription directions to patients as necessary.
  • Occasionally instructs and supervises untrained assistants (e.g. students, volunteers) in performance of simple pharmacy tasks.
  • Has knowledge of (or is capable of learning) and participates with pharmacy and medical staff in documentation and performance of AAAHC/IHS activities to include QM/I.
  • Is able to register patients into the pharmacy system (including insurance information), submit to insurance providers, and investigate and resolve unpaid claims.
  • KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
    • This position requires a substantial degree, specialized skills and knowledge of technical pharmaceutical work and a thorough knowledge of the routines and procedures of the pharmacy.
    • Requires typing a minimum of 50 words per minute and knowledge of pharmacy computer system.
    • Requires skill in operation and care of various types of pharmacy equipment, such as counting and labeling machines, typewriters, pharmacy balances, and other pharmacy equipment.
    • Requires good reading skills due to necessity of reading physicians' handwriting, drug labels, and medical chart entries, order cards and written instructions from pharmacists.
    • Requires adequate math skills to compute requested amounts of drugs and supplies to the amounts obtainable in the pharmacy and for accurate measuring and weighing of pharmaceuticals.
