Position: Lab Technician I

Summary

Under direct supervision of the principal investigator and research staff, provide technical and laboratory support for research investigating injury biomechanics. The technician will assist with biological specimen preparation, animal research activities and data collection.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist research staff with the day-to-day execution of laboratory and animal research activities in accordance with approved research protocols, institutional policies, and animal care requirements.
  • Operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance of laboratory and research equipment.
  • Assist with the collection, labeling, organization, and processing of research samples and experimental materials.
  • Enter and organize experimental data using laboratory databases, spreadsheets, or other research record systems.
  • Assist with preparation of materials and documentation for ongoing research studies, inspections, and regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Basic knowledge of biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, or a related life science discipline.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with spreadsheets, databases, and electronic research records.
  • Ability to operate and maintain basic laboratory and research equipment following training.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
