Description

Milwaukee Eye Care Associates, S.C. (MEC) is looking for a motivated, dependable, and patient-focused Ophthalmic Assistant to join our clinical team.

No ophthalmology experience? That's okay—we will train the right person.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, is comfortable in a fast-paced medical environment, and has the ability to learn, think critically, and apply new knowledge throughout the workday.

This is much more than taking basic measurements. Our Ophthalmic Assistants play an important role in the patient experience and work closely with our ophthalmologists and optometrists to gather information, perform testing, and prepare patients for their examination.

What You'll Do

As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will:

  • Welcome patients and obtain a thorough medical and ocular history
  • Perform preliminary vision and eye testing
  • Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupils, and other eye functions
  • Perform diagnostic testing and imaging as trained
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist physicians and providers throughout the patient visit
  • Recognize when information or test results require additional attention
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients of all ages
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas
  • Continue developing your ophthalmic knowledge through hands‑on training and education
Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Has excellent patient interaction and customer service skills
  • Is a critical thinker who can assess a situation, use learned knowledge, and determine the appropriate next step
  • Learns quickly and is comfortable receiving ongoing feedback and training
  • Can retain information and apply what they have learned from one situation to another
  • Is attentive to detail and committed to accuracy
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is dependable, professional, and works well as part of a team
  • Can manage multiple priorities while maintaining excellent patient care
  • Is comfortable using computers and learning new technology
  • Takes initiative and asks appropriate questions when additional guidance is needed

Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or another patient‑facing healthcare setting is helpful, but not required.

Candidates with experience in roles involving significant one‑on‑one patient interaction, medical terminology, clinical decision‑making, or hands‑on patient care are encouraged to apply.

Schedule & Locations

This is a full‑time position. Milwaukee Eye Care Associates has four locations throughout the greater Milwaukee area, and candidates must be willing and able to work at all four locations as scheduled:

  • Milwaukee – East Side
  • Bayside

Schedules and locations may vary based on clinic and patient needs.

Why Join Milwaukee Eye Care?

We are committed to providing high‑quality, compassionate care while creating an environment where employees can continue to learn and grow.

If you're curious, dependable, comfortable working with patients, and ready to learn something new every day, we'd love to hear from you.
