Director of Spiritual Care

Provide for the spiritual and emotional needs of residents in all of Saint John’s neighborhoods and for the employees as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Develops and maintains relationships with residents across the campus.

Develops and maintains knowledge of residents’ physical and mental health status.

Works as part of a team to provide care for residents and families, particularly spiritual and emotional care.

Coordinates with hospice chaplain where appropriate.

Makes hospital visits as desired.

Shares on-call schedule with chaplain.

Plans and conducts regular services of worship and administers the Sacraments as appropriate.

Provides for all matters relating to the routine administration of Saint John’s Chapel and its liturgical life.

Arranges and conducts funerals and memorial services when requested after consultation with family members, and where appropriate, with the residents’ own clergy.

Plans and conducts Annual Service of Remembrance for all residents who have died within the year.

Develops, coordinates and conducts or oversees opportunities for residents’ spiritual growth, both religious and non-religious.

Supervises Chaplain and Chapel Musician to include coaching, active listening, discipline, evaluating performance and encouraging the employee’s professional growth.

Provides supervision of pastoral volunteers.

Works as part of a team to provide care for employees, particularly spiritual and emotional care as desired.

Makes contact, as appropriate, with each resident’s home congregation and acts as a point of contact for Saint John’s.Establishes annual goals and responsibilities toward meeting those goals. Actively participates in criteria to determine goal success and end-of-year team goal assessment.

Provides annual budget figures based on thoughtful consideration of all stakeholders’ spiritual and emotional needs and interests.

Manages schedule and budget to meet the goals for which position is responsible.

Coordinates with hospice chaplain where appropriate.

Makes hospital visits as desired by the resident.

Shares on-call schedule with chaplain.

Actively participates in Saint John’s Ethics Committee.

Represents Saint John’s and our mission to the Churches of Milwaukee and the larger community, seeking to build and maintain good will with the clergy and other people.

Serves as a resource in the area of spiritual care for older adults.

Participates in professional and ecumenical organizations as appropriate.

Establishes relationships and is an active participant with the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee.

Assures that all resident/client rights are maintained at all times. Reports any violations or suspected deviations immediately according to Saint John’s policy.

Maintains confidentiality of all department and organizational information.

Knows and follows existing lines of communication and authority.

Works tactfully and cooperatively with residents, clients, families, other clergy, visitors, and staff throughout the organization.

Attends in-services, meetings, seminars, maintains job-related certifications and changes schedule to meet the responsibilities of the position.
