Parts Assistant

Hourly Range: $21.30 - $31.92
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Part Manager, the parts assistant is responsible for looking up, sourcing out, ordering, receiving, and distributing parts and other accessories and supplies for the repair and setup of vehicles and equipment. Performs stock replenishment and inventory management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Purchases, inspects, and stores parts for heavy duty trucks, light duty trucks, automobiles, public safety vehicles, construction, and mowing equipment.
- Reviews monthly credit card statements and reconciles invoices which are made on the incumbents Milwaukee County purchasing credit card.
- Ensures all inventory is received in Fleet's computer asset management system (Asset Works). Charge out parts to work orders to ensure costs are recovered from user departments.
- Works with Fleet Service Supervisors, Fleet Mechanics, Welders and Assistant Mechanics to ensure a timely turnaround of parts needed for internal jobs
- Monitors parts room stock levels and location of stock placement on stock shelves. To take regular inventory and place orders when necessary. Analyzes parts department operations and storage layout and revises as needed for maximum effectiveness.
- Keeps a physical library of computerized and hard copy repair and operating manuals for vehicles and equipment. To ensure all diagnostic software used by Fleet's Mechanics is available for use and up to date.

Minimum Requirements:
- Current State of Wisconsin resident
- High School Diploma GED equivalent.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license at time of application and maintained throughout incumbency
- At least Three (3) years of automotive, heavy equipment, construction equipment parts counter experience OR warehouse inventory management OR three years of experience in government purchasing required.
- Intermediate computer knowledge, Microsoft Word and Excel, and data entry skills are required.
- Intermediate knowledge in asset management systems.
- Basic knowledge in vehicle diagnostic software.
- Position requires the ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 60lbs. Must be able to bend, twist, kneel as necessary.
Mandatory Overtime required during the winter season
