Job Summary

The Traffic Clerk provides logistical support to the Shipping and Customer Service Departments. This position is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring shipments to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant delivery. This position requires close collaboration with carriers, internal department, and customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Route orders and schedule freight pickups with carriers via customer or carrier portals, including specialty and international shipments.
  • Obtain, evaluate, and maintain carrier quotes for specialized and international shipments.
  • Assist purchasing with returns to suppliers as needed.
  • Prepare, print, collate, and maintain shipping paperwork, invoices, and export documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, deliveries, and carrier communication.
  • Generate shipping reports and collect other shipment data for departmental reporting and analysis.
  • Track shipments and resolve delivery issues, such as overages, damages, shortages, missing shipments, back-orders, order releases, and address reconsignments.
  • Serve as internal point of contact for shipment-related inquiries, collaborating with customer service, carriers, and other departments to investigate and resolve problems.
  • Handle damage claims and coordinate with carriers to process claims.
  • Order and maintain office and shipping supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of direct experience, or 2 years of relevant experience in shipping or logistics.
  • Knowledge in transportation and import/export preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, shipping software, and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills and previous experience in the lighting industry are a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced office and warehouse environment and meeting deadlines.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds or more – Intermittently (less than 15%)
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours) – Continuously (over 75%)
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and reach as needed - Occasionally (15%-45%)
  • Ability to use hands and fingers – Frequently (45%-75%)
  • Ability to see clearly at close and long distances, distinguish colors, perceive peripheral areas, and judge depth and spatial relationship – Frequently (45%-75%)
  • Ability to hear and recognize a range of sounds for effective communication and safety awareness – Occasionally (15%-45%)
  • Good hand eye coordination – Occasionally (15%-45%)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with time spent in an office or warehouse, with occasional movement between departments.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, machinery, and warehouse equipment.
  • Potential exposure to dust and debris.
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.) is required.
  • The environment may experience fluctuating temperatures.
  • Regular interaction with team members, supervisors, carriers, and vendors in a collaborative setting.
