Assistant Director for Engineering, Vieth Institute for Real Estate Leadership
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director for Engineering will work closely with the leader of the Vieth Institute for Real Estate Leadership to execute strategy, promote interdisciplinary collaboration between the Opus College of Engineering and Marquette Business, and cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, students, and industry partners.
1. Interdisciplinary Program Strategy and Execution
- Lead interdisciplinary integration strategy, creating initiatives that bridge the Opus College of Engineering and College of Business to build a culture of collaboration.
- Design, promote, and manage focused interdisciplinary learning opportunities in high‑demand areas such as construction and development, technical sales, and supply chain logistics.
- Coordinate student participation in complex interdisciplinary applied projects and internal case/design competitions requiring combined engineering and business expertise.
- Partner with Executive Education and the FIELD Center to develop and deliver leadership development and business process short courses and professional training sessions for working engineers and industry professionals.
2. Student Interconnection and Career Readiness
- Supervise student employees, including hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and end of assignment.
- Develop and manage opportunities that connect students across both colleges, such as joint site and company tours, national conference trips, and student club leader round tables.
- Recruit, advise, and connect students to selective interdisciplinary programs, including the Real Estate Asset Program (REAP) investment fund.
- Provide career readiness mentoring; facilitate connections to professional mentors and expand networking opportunities.
- Co‑lead with the Opus College of Engineering Industry Relations Office to enhance internship, co‑op, and career opportunities for students and alumni.
- Manage and increase the frequency of student communications, including a weekly bulletin that shares news, opportunities, and event information.
3. Alumni Engagement and External Visibility
- Increase alumni networking opportunities by developing and executing targeted events and professional development opportunities.
- Encourage alumni participation as guest speakers, mentors, or competition judges in interdisciplinary programs.
- Act as a speaker at conferences and events to share institutional research, ideas, and trends in civil, construction, and real estate industries.
4. Fundraising and Strategic Alignment
- Collaborate with the Vieth Institute leader and University Advancement to lead an assigned segment of the fundraising goal for the institute.
- Contribute to the overall strategy of positioning the university as a nationally recognized leader in construction and civil engineering.
- Build and maintain donor and sponsor relationships.
5. Support Institute Strategy and Advisory Board Initiatives
- Execute institute strategy in partnership with the leader and affiliated staff.
- Lead specific advisory board initiatives, as assigned, to further national recognition in construction and civil engineering.
6. Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes
- Partner with faculty and the Office of the Associate Dean to ensure construction engineering majors complete required experiential learning opportunities and curriculum.
- Work with local chapters of the American Contractors and Civil Engineers to promote best practices and help students advance toward professional registration.
7. Educational Objectives Detail
