Description and Purpose of the Job
:
The aircraft Ducting Welder shall be knowledgeable of all aspects of welding as it relates to performing welds on aircraft ducting, specifically in thin wall aluminum, Inconel, stainless, and titanium, and other critical welds. This position requires the ability to perform these types of welds and have them pass pressure testing and NDT requirements. The welder will be responsible for assisting, advising, and sharing knowledge of job with other welders or ducting technicians.

Reports to: Repair Shop Manager

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assemble and weld aerospace components, including flex joints, in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Independently set up, operate, and adjust manual and semi-automatic welding equipment without technical assistance.
  • Perform welding operations on material thicknesses ranging from approximately 0.010” to 0.250”.
  • Follow approved manufacturing processes, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to ensure accurate execution of welding tasks.
  • Identify weld defects, recognize process issues, and troubleshoot and correct welding problems to meet production and quality standards.
  • Develop, adjust, and implement weld schedules as directed by manufacturing engineering or shop management.
  • Fabricate shop aids, fixtures, and tooling as needed to support efficient welding operations.
  • Assist in advising maintenance activities related to welding equipment and consumable requirements.
  • Maintain acceptable levels of quality, utilization, and productivity as defined by department leadership.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and job knowledge to apprentice and entry-level welders.
  • Accurately complete required production, quality, and training documentation.
  • Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and Foreign Object Debris (FOD)-free condition.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the Welder role as assigned.
  • Assist in other ducting repair metal fabrication as required
Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) years of GTAW welding experience preferred, with in-depth knowledge of GTAW processes and applications.
  • Ability to perform both manual and semi-mechanized GTAW welding operations, including the use of circumferential positioners
  • Proficiency in setting up GTAW welding equipment and associated weld tooling.
  • Strong ability to interpret weld symbols, engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and production planning documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize welding issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement corrective actions to meet quality requirements.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, dial gauges, and micrometers.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and work with tools and equipment for extended periods. Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to noise and chemicals.
