Job Description

• Welding Processes:
  Perform high-quality TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on a variety of materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel.
• Blueprint Reading:
  Interpret weld symbols and engineering drawings to determine specific weld locations, types, and sizes.
• Part Preparation:
  Use grinders, sanders, and clamps to prep surfaces and ensure proper fit-up before welding.
• Finishing:
  Grind, buff, and polish welded joints to achieve specific surface finishes or "seamless" appearances required for consumer-facing products.
• Quality Testing:
  Conduct visual inspections and use leak testing or dyes to ensure weld integrity and compliance with AWS standards.

• Technical Expertise:
  Strong understanding of heat control and wire-speed settings to manage thin-gauge metals (typically 20ga to 7ga).
• Experience:
  
  Most shops require 2+ years of production welding experience or completion of a vocational welding program.
• Certifications:
  • AWS Certified Welder:
    Many employers require testing for specific positions (e.g., D1.1 or D1.3).
  • Material-Specific Certs:
    Certifications for aluminum or stainless steel are highly valued for specialized fabrication.
• Physicality:
  Ability to maintain a steady hand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in awkward positions or confined spaces.

The role is performed on the shop floor and involves exposure to extreme heat, bright light (arc flash), and fumes. Welders must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including auto-darkening helmets, leather gloves, and flame-resistant clothing at all times.
