Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Manufacturing Engineer
Summary
Works with Manufacturing Engineers, Department Supervisors, Manufacturing Managers, Maintenance personnel, and personnel at various plants to design, repair, maintain, machine, and build dies, assembly tools/machines, and other tools and gauges.
Duties- Works with prints, CAD models, sketches, and other information to develop tools and gages needed for assembly.
- Develops machining process tooling.
- Maintains tooling schedule/list that shows tasks and their status of completion.
- Works with outside vendors and services for heat treat, plating, etc. for tools and gages that are made or repaired.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Programs, setups, and runs CNC Mills and Lathes used for making tools.
- Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
- Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
- Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components, with proper instruction given.
- Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
- Maintains Tooling Database, adding new tools to database, recording maintenance events on the tools, and doing preventive maintenance on tools per schedule.
- Design and build all production and proto-type tooling required to produce quality parts.
- Order necessary supplies to maintain and build tooling.
- Maintain machine/equipment/building blueprints, manuals, quotations, maintenance logs, and other documentation, as necessary.
- Work with manufacturing supervision on solving tooling and equipment problems.
- Secure necessary outside machinery and building inspection, maintenance, construction, and/or equipment relocation services as required.
- Manage our Toolroom Safety training program, including training authorized employees on the proper use of our toolroom and maintenance equipment.
- Perform plant maintenance when maintenance Technician is away from the building.

Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) or vocational trade degree; and at least five years of on-the-job experience in manual machining, tool making, and equipment maintenance or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Solid Works and AutoCAD Design software is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel are required.
State-accredited Journeyman program completion – preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high places; fumes or airborne particles; chemicals – such as coolant, oil, dye, and other chemicals used to make or layout tooling; machine hazards relative to hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, vibration, with moving parts and pinch points. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, where hearing protection is recommended or required.
