Job Summary

Under direction of the Director of Automation, the Automation Assembly Technician is responsible for building, start‑up, debug and run off of all electro/mechanical and pneumatic machine builds of all internal Hellermann Tyton designed automation, assembly machines, and robotic end of arm tooling. They also will aide and assist the Automation Design Engineers in machine run offs, set ups and installations as needed and at OEM vendor locations.

The Automation Assembly Techs will be responsible for developing training plans to train the automation department and production personnel, and will help develop FEMA's for all Automation. They will also assist the automation techs through the transition of new machines and equipment until the automation support department can adequately support the equipment. The Automation Assembly Techs will also be responsible for installation and upkeep of the MATTEC monitoring system.

The Automation Assembly Techs will work with the automation techs on continuous improvement projects, corrective actions and improved machine capabilities throughout the plant. This will be achieved by maintaining Hellermann Tyton's Quality System IATF
16949/ISO
9001 and ISO
140001 EMS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with vendors, customers, designers and other co‑workers, with little or no direct supervision.
  • Must be capable of reading and understanding mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Strong analytical, communication and customer relation skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a wide audience, via verbal and written documents for training purposes.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and troubleshooting process.
  • Familiarity with Controls and Operating Systems including PLCs, OIDs.
  • Capable of analyzing and repairing systems to component level.
  • Superior Troubleshooting Skills and tenacity in problem solving.
  • Works to complete installations, training, and troubleshooting under varying circumstances.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Must be a high‑energy self‑starter and a team player.
Other Functions
  • Complete purchase orders according to procedure and submit for approval.
  • Acquire injection molding machine and package configuration knowledge.
  • Install and maintain Mattec MIUs as required.
  • Knowledge in creating and developing FEMA's for automation equipment.
  • PC familiarity is required.
  • Position requires overnight travel throughout the USA and occasionally international travel. Travel up to 10% of the time possible.
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment: safety shoes are to be worn at all times during your scheduled work hours. Department manager/supervisor will cover additional PPE as required on department‑specific work instructions.
  • All employees entering the manufacturing area and other identified locations must wear the designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Wearing your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a condition of employment.

Success in this role will require
  • Building, Start‑Up, and Debug of Automated equipment.
  • Read ladder logic programs and have ability to use skills to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Read schematics: electronic and pneumatic.
  • Install and program part‑removal robots.
  • Build and develop robotic EOAT's (end‑of‑arm tools) as needed.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Knowledge of the corrective action process.
  • Knowledge of the QS9000/IATF
    16949 Quality Systems.
  • Forklift certified at Hellermann Tyton.
What You'll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical degree/technical school diploma, or 5 years of related work experience required.
  • Superior mechanical and electrical/electronic knowledge and skills required.
  • Innovative in problem solving.
  • Knowledge and skills in pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and PLC programming and editing.
  • Prior experience with robotics required.
  • Prior forklift experience preferred.
  • Ability to walk/stand/work for 12‑hour shifts.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 70 lbs.
