Job Summary
Under direction of the Director of Automation, the Automation Assembly Technician is responsible for building, start‑up, debugging, and running all electro/mechanical and pneumatic machine builds of all internal Hellermann Tyton designed automation, assembly machines, and robotic end‑of‑arm tooling. They also will aide and assist the Automation Design Engineers in machine run‑offs, set‑ups and installations as needed and at OEM vendor locations.
The Automation Assembly Technician will develop training plans to train the automation department and production personnel, and will help develop FEMA’s for all automation. They will assist the automation technicians through the transition of new machines and equipment until the automation support department can adequately support the equipment. The Automation Assembly Technician will install and upkeep the MATTEC monitoring system.
They will work with the automation team on continuous improvement projects, corrective actions and improved machine capabilities throughout the plant. This will be achieved by maintaining Hellermann Tyton’s Quality System IATF

140001 EMS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.
- Effectively and professionally communicate with vendors, customers, designers, and other co‑workers, with little or no direct supervision.
- Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Strong analytical, communication and customer relation skills are required.
- Communicate technical information to a wide audience, via verbal and written documents for training purposes.
- Knowledge of PLCs and troubleshooting processes.
- Familiarity with controls and operating systems including PLCs, OITs.
- Capable of analyzing and repairing systems to component level.
- Superior troubleshooting skills and tenacity in problem solving.
- Works to complete installations, training, and troubleshooting under varying circumstances.
- Attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly.
- High‑energy self‑starter and team player.
- Complete purchase orders according to procedure and submit for approval.
- Acquire injection molding machine and package configuration knowledge.
- Install and maintain Mattec MIUs as required.
- Create and develop FEMA’s for automation equipment.
- PC familiarity is required.
- Position requires overnight travel throughout the USA and occasionally international travel—up to 10% of the time.
- Required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes safety shoes; additional PPE will be provided as required on departmental work instructions.
- All employees entering the manufacturing area and other identified locations must wear the designated PPE.
- Wearing PPE is a condition of employment.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Building, start‑up, and debugging of automated equipment.
- Read ladder logic programs and apply skills to troubleshoot equipment.
- Read electronic and pneumatic schematics.
- Install and program part removal robots.
- Build and develop robotic EOATs (end‑of‑arm tools) as needed.
- Knowledge of PFMEA and control plans.
- Knowledge of the corrective action process.
- Knowledge of the QS9000/IATF
16949 quality systems. - Forklift certified at Hellermann Tyton.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical degree or technical school diploma, or five years of related work experience required.
- Superior mechanical and electrical/electronic knowledge and skills required.
- Innovative in problem solving.
- Knowledge and skills in pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of PLCs and PLC programming and editing.
- Prior experience with robotics required.
- Prior forklift experience preferred.
- Ability to walk/stand/work for 12‑hour shifts.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to visually inspect product and packaging quality according to Hellermann Tyton’s quality standards.
- Basic to advanced PC skills and knowledge.
- Experience dealing with suppliers/vendors.
- Travel required—up to 10% of the time, domestic and occasional international.
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and adequate insurance.
