Summary of Position

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, provide leadership and manage the daily manufacturing operations of the Coating Division to achieve the established goals for the monthly output, quality, and efficiency, on time delivery, customer support, and continuous improvement of processes, budget and profitability.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Determine appropriate schedule for jobs to be run during the shifts. Make necessary decisions to maintain efficient workflow and productivity. Coordinate production activities or outside vendors; prioritize and adjust as needed to avoid manufacturing delays.
  • Make employees aware of the importance of time well spend as an asset and the costs associated with material waste, machine downtime, and excessive start-up or setup delays.
  • Generate a daily production report that accurately reflects all activity and the current status of all open orders.
  • Communicate with upper management, supervisors and lead workers all problems/concerns regarding workers, equipment scheduled, etc.
  • Monitor supplies and consumable purchases to ensure they meet job order and inventory demands on a regular basis.
  • Develop and administer methods to reduce scrap; apply "5 why" procedure to determine and write appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain company standards for quality and productivity. Review daily reports and communicate efficiencies and corrective actions with employees as needed.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and cleanliness of work areas for a professional image at all times.
  • Establish work rules and area restrictions which will promote safe methods of machinery operation and material or stock handling.
  • Coordinate, monitor and document the training of new employees; maintain training records, evaluate on‑going training needs of workers. Provide technical support as needed.
  • Prepare employee performance evaluations; conduct formal reviews with employees; recommend appropriate salary adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communication with employees.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures. Coordinate, manage and implement procedures from Germany coating department.
  • Approve vacation schedules and other employee requests for time away from work and assist in developing appropriate work schedule for the coming weeks and determining overtime assignments.
  • Determine appropriate schedule for preventive maintenance; order replacement parts and determine recommendations for major purchases and capital improvement projects.
  • Work with Germany to standardize procedures. Recommend and implement new procedures to improve production and or quality to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Maintain contacts in Germany for technical support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support the division and the remote plants for the troubleshooting of machine problems or issues, maintenance and preventative maintenance.
Education

Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Management or continuing education toward degree. Education requirements maybe waived in lieu of more than ten years of related experience. Must be willing to participate in on‑going educational classes and seminars to maintain an appropriate level of technical and professional skills/knowledge required to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Skills / Experience
  • Minimum of Five years of supervisory experience in a PVD Coating environment. Experience may be waived in lieu of appropriate college level training or technical school degree.
  • Must be able to adjust and occasionally operate equipment as required. Must be able to coordinate the training and evaluation of employees in proper operation of equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently, making both routine and emergency decisions without direct supervision.
  • Computer literate, able to use PC for basic recordkeeping and generating summary activity reports. Should have demonstrated ability to apply ISO 9001 quality and corrective action standards, SPC procedures, time and attendance and data collection procedures.
  • Appropriate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, shop routings and specific engineering notes related to unique customer specifications.
  • Must have thorough understanding of company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state and local laws that relate to employee safety and welfare. Must have ability to react and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to set up and program PVD coating machines.
