Your Responsibilities

Position Overview:

thyssenkrupp Polysius North America, Inc. is currently seeking a first shift setup welder in our Milwaukee, WI location. The overall objective of this position is to fit and weld together fabricated components from flat plate and structural shapes into machinery frames, planetary coolers, round shells, and miscellaneous other fabrications. Materials include mild and stainless steel up to 5 inches thick.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Setup components by layout, fitting, welding, and cleaning to create finished weldments. This includes reading and interpretation of engineering drawings, tolerances, and welding symbols.
  • Flux core and submerged arc welding.
  • Performing self-inspection of your work.
  • Using overhead and/or jib/pedestal cranes, forklifts, man-lifts, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools, hand tools and torches as required.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner utilizing all required PPE being constantly aware of others in the work area.
  • Interface effectively with coworkers in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed to meet customer commitments.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Your Profile

Required

Education & Experience:

High school degree or General education degree (GED); plus 2 years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge &

Skills:

  • Technical or vocational schooling for blueprint reading weld symbols, geometric tolerances, inspection, layout, and welding.
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques, tools, and principals involved in flux core welding and submerged arc welding.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings including geometric tolerances.
  • Safety conscious; contributing to a safe working environment for oneself and all others.
  • Punctual and having the ability to manage time independently with minimal supervision.
  • Hands on and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work in welding fabrication environment (physical exertion and noise) and to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Quality mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous welding certifications.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods.

Work Environment:

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and risk of radiation from electric arc welding.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to noise over 80dB.
  • Overtime work, including weekends, will be required depending on business needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently is required to walk and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand on concrete, sit, reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb or balance.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds; occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to comply with Company safety procedures (including use of personal protective equipment) at any time.
  • Due to the nature of the job, employees are required and must be able to wear personal protective equipment at all times. These include, but are not limited to, steel-toed boots, fall protection, respirators, hearing protection, safety glasses, hard hats, face shields, and face coverings (if mandated).
