About the Job:
This key member of the PR team supports effective external communications in support of Northwestern Mutual's field offices and advisors, thereby helping them achieve their business goals and objectives.
What You'll Do- Under the direction of senior staff, creates and executes communication strategies and tactics to elevate the reputation and business opportunities of Northwestern Mutual and its financial advisors and offices.
- Builds external understanding and support of Northwestern Mutual through proactive media outreach with local, regional, trade and national outlets. Cultivates meaningful relationships with media and advisors, helping to ensure successful outcomes over time.
- Creates and distributes compelling media materials, including messaging documents, pitches, news releases, and media alerts.
- Develops and deploys thought-provoking multimedia thought leadership content for use on social media, websites and newsletters. Serves in a client-facing role and responds in a timely and effective manner to inquiries and needs from Northwestern Mutual advisors and their teams.
- Manages inbound inquiries to the Northwestern Mutual general media line, and reports on media activity to leadership.
- At least 2-3 years of dynamic experience in professional communication, public relations, organizational communications, marketing, training, or related communication field.
- Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or social sciences.
- Proactive professional who can build rapport with business partners and colleagues, provide counsel, and develop productive working relationships at all levels.
- Curiosity and versatility to learn about and work with a variety of business areas and topics.
- Strong presentation, writing, and analytical skills.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively by phone, email, and in person.
- Firm understanding of the news cycle, the news media landscape, and what makes a story newsworthy.
- Ability to solve problems on behalf of PR clients.
- Solid experience using digital and social media and experience in content creation.
- Strong understanding of PR metrics and analysis.
- Attention to Detail: Focuses on specific details to spot and correct errors in advance of them being found and surpass quality expectations. Performs work with thorough proofreading for presentation, content, accuracy, and overall quality.
- Content Management: Ensures content is healthy, accessible, functional and clear to both end-users and internal audience.
- Media Writing: Crafts and edits compelling and newsworthy stories, including press releases and social media posts, to effectively disseminate messages and tell stories that engage target audiences. Communicates effectively with external audiences and media partners using persuasive language to ensure clarity and conciseness in all forms of written communication.
- Public Relations: Applies knowledge of organizational practices and considerations for communicating in the public arena, from community to global public relations (PR). Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with key media contacts and effectively leverages those relationships to achieve strategic communication goals through press releases, social media, and appropriate business information sharing.
- Thought Leadership: Provides innovative ideas, strategic insights, and visionary guidance in a particular domain or area of expertise and communicating them effectively.
- Writing and Editing: Creates and edits persuasive content so that it is appealing, understandable, or relatable to the intended audience;
Has knowledge of the variety of formats, styles, and techniques for developing and reviewing materials.

Compensation
Pay Range - Start: $46,130.00
Pay Range - End: $85,670.00
Geographic Specific Pay Structure: Structure 110 / Structure 115. We believe in fairness and transparency. Final salaries are based on factors including skills and experience, market conditions, location, and other hiring process factors. Geographic pay structures may apply in certain locations.
