POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications and Social Media Manager will oversee social content planning, scheduling, and creation. The position will lead efforts in Milwaukee’s storytelling on social media and ensure the voice and tone of the brand is infused throughout marketing communications and that both partner and diverse businesses are well represented in content. Additionally, the position will support the overall marketing and communications departments providing copywriting support, including but not limited to writing for internal and external audiences, websites, newsletters, email marketing, marketing collateral, and presentations.

This position requires a journalistic and entrepreneurial mindset devoted to telling the stories of Milwaukee and will give strategy support to the overall content and communications plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SOCIAL MEDIA:

  • Oversee and coordinate Visit Milwaukee’s social media activity.
  • Management of social media communities on all social platforms (Visit Milwaukee, DearMKE, Good Things Brewing, among others), including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest, You Tube, etc.
  • Ensure all communications on social media platforms reflect the Visit Milwaukee brand, with consistent voice and tone.
  • Define quarterly social media strategy, and craft messages and look for unique opportunity to encourage participation and conversation on our social pages; pivot as needed to coordinate with marketing campaigns and seasonal needs.
  • Create monthly/weekly social media editorial calendar, and post and respond daily with creative and engaging content on all social media channels.
  • Keep appraised of emerging social media platforms and trends.
  • Coordinate social coverage with staff, interns and freelance help.
  • Cover or coordinate coverage of evening and weekend activities and promotions as needed.
  • Monitor social media channels for public communications and interactions with the brand.
  • Working with the Marketing and Communications team as appropriate, seek out opportunities to partner with social media influencers and/or Visit Milwaukee partners to help curate unique content and experience on social channels.
  • With guidance from senior leadership, oversee responses, when deemed appropriate, to respond to interactions on our channels.
  • Monitor general social content about the Greater Milwaukee area and follow key community leaders to stay apprised on social media activity; provide constructive interaction with users as required. visitmilwaukee.org | #visitmke
  • Assess, propose, and execute digital strategies that increase social media presence, increasing engagement, and accelerating organic follower growth across all channels.
  • Consistently track and report social media data, using historical benchmarks to measure success, ROI, share insights, and develop action plans.
  • Create high-quality, compelling, and engaging content, and story/mood boards across all platforms, including short-form and long-form content.
  • Coordinate content to fulfill contract agreements with strategic partnerships (Discover Wauwatosa, Potawatomi Casino Hotel, Discover the North Shore, etc.)
  • Attend or coordinate coverage of live events via social media for special occasions or events, including some nights and weekends.
  • Review and proof read copy being published by Visit Milwaukee, ensuring brand consistency (voice-and-tone), correct
  • grammar and spelling, and fact checking as necessary.

DEPARTMENT SUPPORT:

  • Take lead in execution and development of key partner related projects and helping to track and develop marketing plans and tracking execution.
  • Create or assist with e-newsletters, press releases and marketing materials as needed.
  • Assist with website content creation and storytelling.
  • Give presentations on behalf of the marketing and communications department.
  • Provide overall project management support and oversight, overseeing assigned cross-departmental projects and company initiatives.
  • Represent Visit Milwaukee in the community by helping staff Visit Milwaukee sponsorship tables, booths activations at festivals and events, and more.
