Overview
The Vice President of Mission Advancement serves as the chief fundraising officer and a key member of the senior leadership team. This strategic role drives long‑term mission growth to sustain and expand K‑8 educational programs in inner‑city communities, aligning development with organizational vision for a $20M mid‑sized nonprofit.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive, multi-year mission advancement strategy, including major gifts, planned giving, individual giving, institutional partnerships and capital campaigns.
- Build and diversify the donor pipeline; personally cultivate and solicit high-level gifts ($25,000+).
- Partner with the CEO and board to set advancement priorities.
- Create the mission advancement strategy for LUMIN.
- Manage the marketing function to ensure close collaboration with Advancement.
- Plan for and fund a Corporate Development function focused on sustainable growth for the organization.
- Oversee all fundraising channels: annual giving, grants, events, corporate/foundation relations, and digital campaigns.
- Provide visionary leadership to the development team; hire, mentor, and manage staff.
- Represent the organization externally as a spokesperson for mission advancement, forge alliances with community leaders and funders.
- Analyze performance data, prepare board reports, and forecast revenue to support strategic planning and budget growth.
- Ensure integration of development with programs, finance, and communications for a unified advancement approach.
- See to the creation and maintenance of a Mission Advancement dashboard for the LUMIN executive team.
- Bachelor's degree preferred;
Master's degree or CFRE advantageous. - 10–15+ years of senior‑level nonprofit fundraising experience, with a track record of scaling revenue in education or similar sectors.
- Demonstrated success in major gifts, campaign leadership, and team building.
- Portfolio of demonstrated strategy‑to‑results programs.
- Effective team leadership, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Experience with donor management systems and data‑driven decision‑making. - Active member of a Christian, preferably Lutheran, congregation.
- Passion for the LUMIN mission.
Exempt/Salaried (full time; 12‑months; flexibility of hours for some nights and weekend activities)
Salary Range: $125,000–$150,000+ (commensurate with experience)
