Responsibilities

  • Develop and grow collaborations with public, private, and governmental stakeholder leaders throughout the region
  • Support and implement comprehensive outreach and education campaigns with statewide and Milwaukee outreach efforts and partners
  • Conduct direct health insurance enrollment assistance for Medicaid and Marketplace coverage
  • Supportively lead the Milwaukee Enrollment Network, a coalition of nearly 100 organizations focused on enrollment for low-income and vulnerable populations
  • Lead organized, action-oriented meetings and collaborative professional efforts
  • Deliver persuasive communications through formal presentations, media interviews, and written messaging
  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics for outreach programs
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships
  • Deliver outreach content and materials to community members
  • Oversee day-to-day activities for program staff, student volunteers, and community volunteers
  • Implement initiatives and events for the target audience
  • Assist with monitoring outreach program budget spending
  • Develop and evaluate curricula and programs and recommend improvements
  • Research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials
  • Travel periodically within southeastern and southcentral Wisconsin, including some overnights
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends to meet community program needs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in communications, public affairs, social work, sociology, political science, public health, consumer science, adult education, public affairs, public or health care administration, health communication, nonprofit management, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with leaders of community-based organizations and partner agencies
  • Strong public communication skills demonstrated through presentations, media interviews, and written persuasive messaging
  • Experience coordinating outreach to and/or community organizing with populations most at-risk for health and other disparities
  • Group meeting facilitation, coordination, and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and managing multiple initiatives at one time
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or compliance with UW-Madison vehicle use authorization requirements
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Preferred: connections and relationships with agencies, partners, and collaborators in southeast Wisconsin
  • Preferred: knowledge of Medicaid, Badger Care Plus, and federal Marketplace eligibility and policies
  • Preferred: direct consumer assistance, such as public benefits enrollment or support accessing health or social programs
  • Preferred:
    Spanish speaking, writing, and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture
  • Preferred: master's degree in a related field
  • Optional recognized second-language proficiency certification, preferably CCHI or ACTFL, completed within the last 5 years

Demonstrates expertise in developing and leading outreach initiatives, fostering collaborations with diverse stakeholders, and delivering effective communication strategies. Proficient in coordinating community engagement efforts and managing program activities to support vulnerable populations.
