Position Summary

The School Nurse (SN) will provide medical care to all school students eph Academy. Maintaining immunizations, medications, and an effective referral system are key components of the SN. The SN will facilitate Code Blue drills, work with the Food Services Supervisor to promote overall health, and lead the School’s Wellness Plan.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Current WI Nursing license required
  • 1+ years School Nurse experience
  • Effective and appropriate interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic communities
  • Current knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with appropriate staff
  • Proficient user of MS Office software
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
Equipment Used
  • PC, printers, phone systems, fax machine, photocopier, scanner
Physical and Mental Requirements

Occasionally (1%–33% of the time): lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing, bending and reaching. Frequently (34%–66% of the time): hand manipulation/dexterity when writing, using PC, and using other office equipment. Continuously (67%–100% of the time): sitting.

Environmental Conditions

Occasional exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to care of ill children; exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children; seasonal high humidity; heat and cold due to internal and external environment.

Essential Job Functions / Duties
  • Provide medical care to all school students as needed.
  • Maintain accurate immunization files for all school students.
  • Administer, log, and track medications while storing them in a secure place.
  • Maintain effective referral systems.
  • Become a liaison between students, families, staff, and community resources.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff.
  • Respond to first aid and other medical concerns as they arise.
  • Lead the School’s Wellness Plan.
  • Schedule and facilitate Code Blue drills.
  • Work with Food Services Supervisor to promote healthy choices and habits.
  • Ensure student care aligns with the mission and values of the Felician Sisters for St. Joseph Academy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
