Summary
This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center – Milwaukee, Wisconsin – in the Quality – Safety – and Value Division (QSV). The Risk Manager (RM) Registered Nurse (RN) functions as an advanced clinician and executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership experience and creative approaches to the management of the Risk Management Program.
Qualifications- Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency; proficiency in basic written and spoken English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Education and Licensure: Graduate of a professional nursing school approved by an accredited agency (ACEN or CCNE) or, for foreign graduates, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meeting VA requirements. A master’s level bridge program in nursing may be used for early licensing, with temporary appointment available until completion and graduation.

- Scope of Practice (examples):
• Nurse I – Level I: fundamental, knowledge‑based care; required ADN or diploma.
• Nurse I – Level II: integration of biopsychosocial concepts; requires 1 year of specialized experience or a BSN.
• Nurse I – Level III: advanced planning and goal setting; requires 2 years of experience or a BSN with additional experience.
• Nurse II: leadership in holistic care; requires BSN with 2 years of experience or an MSN with one year of specialized experience.
• Nurse III: advanced leadership in complex client care; requires MSN with 2 years specialized experience, or equivalent doctoral status. - Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and lifting in direct patient care; occasional extended sitting.

- Audit and investigate activities affecting the agency’s internal security, including patient‑care record reviews for fact‑finding, sentinel events, surveillance, performance improvement, root‑cause analyses, healthcare failure mode and effect analysis (HFMEA), and regulatory agency requests.
- Protect the internal security of Clement J. Zablocki VA Health Care System by ensuring all duties are performed with honesty and integrity, supporting the agency’s mission.
- Lead and manage the Risk Management Program, coordinating reviews, compliance, and the development of processes that meet facility expectations and oversight body requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and quality reviews within the required timeframe.
- Serve as Protected Peer Review coordinator, tracking, trending, analyzing, and reporting changes in protected peer review data.
- Participate in interdisciplinary groups as necessary.
- Develop recommendations for the Chief of Quality Management to improve or change facility systems based on standard changes, data analysis, and best practices.
- Preferred Experience:
Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field; BSN or comparable education; 5 years of clinical experience; knowledge of healthcare/quality standards such as The Joint Commission, VHA/Office of the VA Inspector General, and CMS regulations; demonstrated experience in long‑term care quality, performance improvement, team facilitation, MDS, accreditation/regulatory compliance, pressure ulcer management, and project planning.
VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay:
