- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute, critical, and chronic patient illnesses and diseases in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, assess and determine differential diagnoses; prescribe medication, therapy, and treatments accordingly.
- Interpret and evaluate patient data to determine management and treatment; perform minor surgeries and routine procedures; consult with physicians as appropriate; order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies as trained and competent by a physician.
- Adjust patient care plans through review and monitoring of treatments and therapy plans; counsel, instruct, and educate patients on physical and mental health, diet, preventive measures, health behaviors, self‑care skills, disease, treatment options, and normal growth and development.
- Provide care coordination, including managing ancillary services, pre‑operative plans, discharge planning, provider referrals, and medical devices such as insulin pumps, defibrillators, and pacemakers.
- Prescribe, recommend, and regulate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies across multiple care settings, including controlled medications when warranted by patient’s diagnosis or changing condition.
- Prepare, dictate, and sign patient care plans and summaries; maintain records according to established standards and guidelines.
- Provide clinical direction to nursing staff regarding continued care of patients and ensure patient receives recommended care.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care, understanding growth and development across lifespan, assessing data reflective of patient status, and applying policies and procedures accordingly.
- Physician Assistant license issued by the state in which the caregiver practices.
- Physician Assistant (PA‑C) certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the caregiver practices.
- Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA); may be obtained within 6 months based on department discretion.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Prefer experience in advanced practice clinical settings.
- High level of clinical proficiency and excellent decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a health‑care team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate and establish relationships with others.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist continuously during the workday.
- Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
- Must lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; up to 20 lbs over the head; carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Must push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids; protective clothing and equipment (e.g., goggles, lead apron, gloves, gowns) required as necessary.
- Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
