Position Summary
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department/Division/Program of Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the Trauma and Acute Care in the clinic outpatient setting. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.
PositionHighlights
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Trauma and Acute care Surgery services.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicate and document information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
- Previous APP specialty, procedural, or other APP skill experience preferred.
- Advanced Practice Nurse:
Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. - Physician Assistant:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC‑PA‑accredited organization.
- Wisconsin RN License
- Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
- Certification Requirements:
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date
- DEA registration
- Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization:
- Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)
- Adult‑Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP)
- Family NP (FNP)
- Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
- Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Certification Requirements:
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date
- DEA registration
- Training required in the first six months:
- AHA BCLS, AHA ACLS, DEA, ATLS (will train) and CITI Certification
