Position Summary
The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the Trauma and Acute Care clinic outpatient setting in Milwaukee, WI. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in patient care, safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.
PositionHighlights
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical intervention in an outpatient environment as a member of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery services.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and transfer orders.
- Orders, performs, and interprets screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
- Facilitates and communicates with patients, families, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attends required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current developments and trends in the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner fields through educational programs, in‑services, professional associates, and current literature.
- Preferred Experience: Previous APP specialty, procedural, or other APP skill experience preferred.
- Minimum Education: Advanced Practice Nurse – Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization;
Physician Assistant – Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC‑PA accredited organization. - Minimum Requirements: Advanced Practice Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Wisconsin RN license and Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license.
- Certification Requirements: American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) (required within 6 months of start date), DEA registration;
Nurse Practitioner certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization (Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP), Adult‑Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP), Family NP (FNP)). - Physician Assistant Requirements: Wisconsin Physician Assistant license;
Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- AHA BCLS, AHA ACLS, DEA, ATLS (will train) and CITI certification.
