Research Compliance Officer (RCO) Registered Nurse (RN)

The Research Compliance Officer (RCO) Registered Nurse (RN) serves as the RCO for the Research and Development (R&D) Program.

Contributes to the fulfillment of the organization's mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining the research compliance program, policies, and procedures.

Responsible for key decisions on compliance policy and compliance issues relevant to the overall R&D Program and specifically to the pending and active research protocols at the facility. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creativity.

Responsible for developing, maintaining, providing leadership, education, training, strategic direction and oversight of compliance and assurance activities for the R&D Program. Provides guidance and counsel on mechanisms for incorporating compliance-related activities into the day-to-day operations of the R&D Program. Ensures that regulator and policy updates are received by the R&D Program in a timely manner.

Designs programs to monitor three major areas of research compliance relevant to the R&D Program to ensure that requirements for the proper conduct of research with human studies, animal studies, biosafety, and conflict of interest are met. Oversees the education and training process for research and non-research employees regarding compliance related activities.

Works collaboratively with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) and Administrative Officer (AO) for R&D in designing and implementing programs and activities as stated above. Serves as the subject matter expert concerning compliance issues with federal regulations and VA policies.

Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, Veterans Integrated Systems Network (VISN), or Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO).

Preferred Experience:

The ideal candidate will have either direct experience with working on regulated research projects or experience in research oversight procedures.
